Saphan Hin Park, the lagoon-side public space at the south end of Phuket Town, becomes the main Loy Krathong gathering point on the island on November 25. Families release lotus-shaped krathongs onto the lagoon water from sunset onwards, with cultural performances, traditional Thai food stalls, and a Noppamas beauty pageant running through the evening.
Free entry. Krathongs run 50 to 200 baht at vendors on the park edge; bring cash. Park-side parking fills up by 18:00, so a Grab or scooter drop-off is faster than driving. Saphan Hin is a fifteen-minute drive from Old Town and twenty minutes from Patong via the bypass road.
If you want the holiday with less crowd, the smaller public gatherings at Nai Harn Lake, Patong Beach, Kathu Park, and Laguna Phuket near Bang Tao Beach all hold their own krathong releases the same evening. Nai Harn is the photographer's pick for sunset reflections; Patong is the easier walk-in option from the western beach hotels. Either way, mosquito repellent recommended.
